Hello farmers!
Last week we launched our closed beta on mainnet, where select users got to try out DeFi Land for the first time! The response has been incredible, from intense competition on the points leaderboard to the valuable feedback our users have provided. And we’re just getting started; we plan to add much more for our upcoming launch!
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. In this article, we’ll be showcasing all the things you can do in our game for those who haven’t had the opportunity to participate in the beta.
But first, we’d like to revisit our motivations behind creating DeFi Land.
Why Gamification Matters
DeFi is still clunky. User interfaces are not intuitive enough that users interacting with DeFi apps for the first time can figure them out. Further, there is a general lack of understanding as to how DeFi apps actually work, and entrusting your hard-earned money to them can be a scary ordeal.
This is where gamification can step in to accelerate mass adoption. By embedding DeFi functionality within a game, people will be able to interact with DeFi apps in a familiar setting. This will speed up the learning process for new users and create an overall smooth experience that will make users always want to come back for more.
With that reminder of our mission behind us, let’s take a look at the beta!
Beta Showcase
After signing up with an email address and password, you can sign in. Once the game is loaded, you can connect your wallet.
When you enter DeFi Land for the first time, you are greeted by a fellow farmer who will give you a tour of your village.
DeFi Land allows you to adjust a variety of settings to your liking.
In DeFi Land, you can left-click to select, right-click drag to move, zoom with your scroll wheel, and scroll-wheel-click drag to rotate your view.
Let’s take a look at some of the clickable structures!
Your “House” serves a variety of functions.
You can view your portfolio.
You can view your achievements.
And you can view the leaderboard. (Inventory will be included in a future release.)
The “Wise Statue” shares a new piece of wisdom every day.
DeFi Land currently has two games: “Memory Game” and “Farm Invaders”.
In Memory Game, you flip 2 cards at a time and try to flip matching cards by remembering their positions. The difficulty increases as you beat each level.
Farm Invaders is like Space Invaders, but instead crows have come to steal your crops!
The “Bug Report” is just what it sounds like — it’s where you go to report bugs!
The “Seed Laboratory” is where users can combine different crops (assets) to produce seeds (LP tokens).
Currently, DeFi Land only supports Raydium’s LP tokens, but expect more integrations in the future!
Once you make some seeds, they can be planted in your fields.
Once planted, the crops can be harvested or unplanted.
Harvesting corresponds to harvesting on Raydium, where the accumulated emissions are transferred to your wallet.
The “Market” is where you can swap between assets (through Raydium).
